6. Roselands Apizza, Derby, CT
One of those places that you hate to love. In the smallest town in Connecticut, tucked away in its own corridor and featuring straightforward, direct and sometimes nasty service- this institution still found its way onto the national list of best pizzas by the Daily Meal. While the poorman's pie is quite good, you are coming here for the meatball pizza. The perfect portion of meat, cooked to a nice slight crisp and with a touch of garlic, this pizza may earn its way to your heart as best topping pizza. Clumps of tomato and a flimsy base keep it out of the top 5.
7. Modern Apizza, New Haven, CT
Apparently name your pizza place "apizza" instead and its bound to be wonderful. Excellent wood fired pizza in one of the most famous pizza cities in the country. Modern does an excellent job with its crust and pizza base- giving you the best of the crunch and chew you desire in a pizza. I've figured out what makes this pizza so addicting- it's the salt they add in. Add salt to you pizza, and you'll see why the others rank higher. Very high quality nonetheless and one of the best cheese slices anywhere. Make sure to dine in!
8. Williamsburg Pizza, New York City, NY
Contrary to what it's name suggests, this pizza chain extends into Manhattan as well. The classic slices do not disappoint but the grandma's slice (Pecorino, Parmesan and Mozzarella with garlic, basil and tomato sauce) is a home run. What keeps it shy of a grand slam is that it's just a bit too greasy. Definitely check out the locations closest to you!
9. Campari's, Chatham, MA
The rich Gorgonzola pizza here is so good that it has me, an arch-nemesis of Gorgonzola salivating. Unfortunately this surprising Cape Cod addition to the list is no more.
10. Patsy's, New York City, NY
For a quality cheese pizza that is well balanced and traditional in most senses of the word, head on over to Patsy's. For those who can't handle slices too greasy, too cheesy, too anything- you will be fine here.
